about

Our single series continues to make headway, and it is with great satisfaction that we announce our next release is both 100% Portuguese, and made within the Counterpoint collective.

After the success of “Reaching Out” (released May 2016), Molecular returns to the label through the “Golden Gate”. For the past 3 years he has been carving a name for himself within the scene, with back to back EPs on Fokuz Recordings as well as releases on Citrus and Lockdown Recordings. He now draws from this experience to deliver 2 amazing tracks which represent Counterpoint, and simultaneously pay homage to the foundations of Drum & Bass by incorporating noticeable references to a late 90’s/early 00’s aesthetic.
After some months of spreading across dancefloors like wildfire, we’re finally releasing it to the world, and once again shinning the spotlight on some of the best work which is done in our very own Portugal.

Side A // Molecular – Triangle Dub
We heard somewhere that family knows best, and if anything – Triangle Dub is concrete proof for this expression. As part of the collective, Molecular effortlessly captured the trademark Counterpoint mixture of emotional and the technical approaches to sonics, which characterizes our posture in Drum & Bass.

Triangle dub is built for the dancefloor but layered enough to provide an interesting experience in multiple scenarios. It builds from the deep and dystopian sounds of the intro and drops into a mixture of rolling textures, which create an amazingly twisted past/future dichotomy. Relentlessly providing the groove through it’s bassline, it works like a gravitational forcefield which pushes everyone on the dancefloor to the most under of grounds.

Side B // Molecular – Kingdom’s Fall
In a time where Drum & bass is currently revisiting and celebrating it’s roots, Kingdom’s Fall is a track of outmost pertinence. Sharing a classical education between Piano playing and Drum & Bass producing, Molecular pays his homage to the timeless “Headz” sound.
Looking to steer clear of current construction standards, the track displays a refreshing lookback on a time when structure was perfectly integrated in progression. Featuring a staggering 8 minutes and 38 seconds of constant suspense, it keeps you on your toes every single bar, while immersing you in a delightful bass voyage. A trip down memory lane, which still hits the dancefloor at contemporary standards and is bound to deliver a nostalgic feeling on the crowd.
